Christmas 2022-2023: The Observatory updates the accommodation demand forecast for Destination Barcelona
15/12/2023 - 13:00h
Hotel booking levels in Destination Barcelona are higher than last year's
The OTB publishes a special update of the Accommodation Demand Forecast section of the latest Destination Barcelona tourism forecast report with a special focus on the Christmas holidays.
The main conclusions of this update are:
- The level of hotel bookings grows from the weekend before Christmas to New Year's Eve, progressively. Although a decrease in bookings is observed from that time onwards, bookings until now are above last year's provisional bookings. This, together with the fact that some of the main source markets (Germany, France, the Netherlands and Spain) will be on school holidays during the first week of the year, indicates that there is still room for growth in bookings for this period.
- Bookings for the Christmas period have been made on average 60-70 days in advance, being these, higher than a year ago.
- Spain is the market with the most bookings for Christmas. Bookings from the United States are the most frequent international bookings in Barcelona city, while those from France are the most frequent in the region.
- The average length of stay will be 3.8 nights in Barcelona city and 3.6 nights in the region and the ADR will be over €200 in the first case and close to €170 in the second. Both prices are above the same period last year.
- 6 out of 10 stays will be as a couple.
- In comparison with other European cities, Barcelona city is slightly above the average in terms of bookings and Barcelona region, slightly below it. The ADR of the two areas will be lower than the average of the other cities analysed, which in some cases exceeds €300 (Rome = €427, London €371 and Paris €360), yet the average stay will be above other cities such as Amsterdam and Madrid.
