Cultural heritage, the best valued item in Barcelona by tourists online

These data have been extracted from the 2018 iRON Online Reputation Index, undertaken by the Observatori del Turisme a Barcelona (OTB), that has analyzed for the first time more than 4 million online opinions on the main internet platforms about more than 15,000 tourist resources in the city.
The cultural resources of the city were specially recommended by the tourists according to their online opinions. This is one of the main conclusions of the 2018 iRON Online Reputation Index, which analyzes for the first time more than 4 million online opinions about more than 15,000 tourist resources of the city on the main internet platforms, and rate the city with an 8.42 out of 10.
Among the recommendations of tourist attractions, the cultural resources are specially valued, with an 8.92. These resources represent 67% of the valuations in this area. Within this category, Sagrada Familia in on the first place, with 150,000 opinions and an iRON of 9.37. In the second position, Park Güell with an iRON of 8.62 and almost to 100,000 opinions.
In particular, there is a relevant contribution of modernist heritage, with more than 375,000 opinions and a high satisfaction customer rate. In addition to the good valuation of Sagrada Familia, other modernist icons such as Casa Batlló get high ratings (9.26), or Palau de la Música (9.41). Noteworthy too, the high valuation of museums like the City History Museum (MUHBA), with an iRON of 8.98, or Cosmocaixa, with a 9.22, and MNAC with a 9.13, these last two with over 20,000 opinions altogether.
Apart from these architectural and cultural icons, the main urban spaces, such as the Gothic Quarter, El Born or Ciutat Vella, also obtain a high level of notoriety in opinions volume. Particular mention should be given to Montjuïc mountain, which with over 125,000 users’ opinions valuing its attractions, represents a great example of the diversity of the tourist experiences in Barcelona, with its range of museum, architectural, natural or sports resources, and a rating of 8.71.
Barcelona, the 4th European city that grows the most in online ratings
The iRON study, executed by the Observatori del Turisme a Barcelona, reinforces the tourist intelligence system of the Barcelona City Council, which has now more knowledge of the experience and the perceived quality of the city thanks to the contents generated by Internet users, mostly visitors and tourists.
The iRON monitors three sectors: tourist attractions, which in the city obtain an 8.91 valuation; accommodation, with an 8.24; and restaurants, with an 8.13.
To carry out this task, more than 4.2 million opinions and recommendations from tourists regarding their "Barcelona experience" have been found and studied as an addition to the accommodation, restaurants and attractions opinions of the Catalan capital. This large volume of users’ opinions has experienced a 28% growth between 2017 and 2018, placing Barcelona in the 4th position of the cities that grow the most in general content written by tourists, compared to the top 10 urban destinations in Europe, and only exceeded by Madrid, Prague and Vienna, with increases ranging from 29% to 35%.
The Observatori del Turisme a Barcelona (OTB) is joined by Barcelona City Council, consortium Turisme de Barcelona and Barcelona Regional Council, and has conducted the "2018 Barcelona City Online Reputation Monitor", and a version for the different regions of Barcelona.
