3 out of 4 tourists committed to sustainability had previously visited Destination Barcelona

The OTB presents the second monographic report Profile and Habits of Tourists in the Destination of Barcelona on sustainability
The typical tourist profile of this type of tourist in Destination Barcelona is a 35.8-year-old person, resident in the rest of Europe (40.0%), who has traveled for leisure (58.0%), as a couple (42.0%), who have arrived at the Destination mostly by private vehicle and plane (39.7% and 36.2% respectively), have stayed in a hotel (53.0%) and has previously visited the municipality of overnight stay (72.5%). Noteworthy the increase of 16.6% of tourists who have arrived at Destination Barcelona by train (18.3%).
When planning the trip, tourists committed to sustainability use the information provided from both, websites and friends and relatives. On the other hand, although the purchase of arrival transport and the accommodation is made mainly through the company's website (63.5% and 42.1% respectively) there are a significant number of tourists who book their accommodation through OTAs (online travel agencies) (29.6%), being Booking and Airbnb being the most used.
During the stay, which 4.8 days on average, the two main activities carried out in the municipality were tasting gastronomy (86,2) and taking quiet and relaxing walks (83.6%).
The total expense during the stay per person and day in this tourist profile has been observed with a value of €49.64. Likewise, most of this expenditure is allocated to food and drink, followed, in that order, by shopping, internal transport and culture.
The average overall rating of the municipalities visited was 8.75 out of 10 and the best rated aspects were the character and friendliness of the people (8.66) and the accommodation (8.62).
