Barcelona faces July with 58 more intercontinental routes, 11,5% more than the previous year

The Barcelona Tourism Observatory: city and region publishes a new report on the Destination Barcelona tourism activity forecast for July.

Below are the main conclusions of this new edition of the report:

• Air capacity in Barcelona for June is estimated to be 2 million seats (+4,7% year-on-year). By the end of June, the airport will be linked through Vueling with a new destination in Morocco: Essaouira. Throughout the same month, flight frequencies to Shanghai will be increased.
• It is expected that during the month, 82 cruise ships will arrive to the Port of Barcelona, the lowest point in the summer season. However, the number of cruise ships will be higher than the same period in 2024.
• The cultural and leisure agenda will once again be headlined by major musical events, such as the Imagine Dragons concert in the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys, the Miguel Bosé concert in Palau Sant Jordi, and the Robbie Williams concert at RCDE. Moreover, there will be festivals such as Pride Barcelona, Canet Rock Festival, the Barcelona International Short Film Festival, and The Nights of Barcelona Festival. In terms of sports, the 18^th edition of Puig Classic Sailing Regatta will take place. Finally, as for festivities and traditions, the highlight will be the European Balloon Festival in Igualada.
• Despite the low professional activity in Summer, during July the most relevant event will be the ESMO Gastrointestinal Cancers Congress (5.000 attendees).
• During July, almost all of the source markets included in the report will enjoy summer school holidays: Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea.
• In the past month, the most common Google searches for Barcelona have been similar to the ones in the same period for 2024. The most popular searches in Barcelona city are still Sagrada Familia. Among the rising searches, topics such as beaches can be found.
• In the last month, Barcelona Destination has ranked 4^th in accommodation and 6^th in flights in the global online ranking, ahead of cities like Amsterdam, Madrid and Dublin. Currently, Barcelona’s position closely resembles that of Dubai for accomodation and Rome for flights.
• Hotel bookings in the past month have been led by the domestic market especially in Barcelona region, where they represent over half of the total reservations. In Barcelona city the United States continues to lead the international market, whilst for Barcelona region it has been France. 6 out of 10 bookings have been couples’ trips.
• Currently, the level of reservations for the upcoming months are below those recorded last year for Barcelona city, especially in July. In Barcelona region they are slightly below.

Compared to other European destinations, Barcelona city will have a similar level of hotel bookings as London for the third quarter. It will also be higher than Paris, but lower than Berlin, Madrid and Amsterdam. Barcelona region is significantly below the aforementioned.
