Destination Barcelona closes 2025 with 26.1 million tourists and €14,041M in economic impact

The Barcelona Tourism Observatory (OTB) presents the first capsule of the 2025 annual report, a year of sustained growth for Destination Barcelona, in line with the international trend highlighted by the World Tourism Organization.

The city of Barcelona welcomed 16.0 million tourists and the region 10.1 million, bringing Destination Barcelona to a total of 26.1 million tourists. The direct economic impact of tourism expenditure was estimated at €14,041 million. This impact was distributed as €10,376M in the city of Barcelona and €3,665M in the Barcelona region.

Destination Barcelona recorded a moderate increase in the supply of tourist accommodation, with 26,665 establishments (+1.4%) and 363,991 bed places (+0.5%). In the city of Barcelona, the increase was mainly due to the incorporation of new Homes for Tourist Use into the Consolidated Register of Tourist Accommodation Establishments (CCEAT). In the Barcelona region, capacity in hotels, apartments and rural tourism grew, while slight decreases were recorded in guesthouses, hostels and campsites.

Across the entire Destination, more than 56 million overnight stays in tourist accommodation were recorded (+1.6%), with stability in the hotel segment and notable growth in guesthouses, tourist-use dwellings and campsites.

In terms of mobility infrastructure, Barcelona Airport set a new record with more than 57.4M passenger movements (+4.4%), while the Port of Barcelona also reached historic highs in cruises and ferries, with 4.0M passenger movements in the former and 1.8M in the latter.

The report confirms the consolidation of tourism activity despite inflation in tourism services and geopolitical challenges.
