Hotel bookings on the rise this spring in Destination Barcelona

The OTB publishes the outbound markets report for the second quarter of the year

The Barcelona Tourism Observatory has published the source markets report for the second quarter of 2026. This report includes, for each of the main outbound markets of the Destination — Germany, Spain, the United States, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom — an overview of their air connectivity, online interest, holidays, the status and characteristics of their hotel bookings, and a comparison with other European destinations.

These are the main highlights of the report:

  • The domestic market shows the highest volume of hotel bookings for the upcoming quarter, both in Barcelona city (21.7% share) and in Barcelona region (56.5% share). The United States once again ranks as the international market with the highest number of bookings for Barcelona city (with a 12.4% share), while in the Barcelona region, France and the United States, which hold the same share (7.0%).
  • The Sagrada Familia and the beaches top the list of the most frequent online search concepts related to Barcelona city from the main source markets.
  • Almost all the markets analysed will enjoy school holidays during Easter. Most will also have several public holidays spread across May and June, which could encourage tourism demand.
  • Overall, hotel bookings for stays during the upcoming quarter show a higher level than a year ago in both Barcelona city and Barcelona region.
  • Some booking peaks can be observed, coinciding with holiday periods or public holidays in the analysed countries, and others with events in the Barcelona Destination such as trade fairs, festivals and sporting events.
  • An increase in the bookings lead time compared to last year can also be observed among most source markets.
  • Germany and the United Kingdom are the markets showing the longest average stays in Barcelona city (3.6 nights in both cases), while the Netherlands and Germany show the longest stays in Barcelona region (4.6 and 4.3 nights, respectively).
  • In general, hotel bookings in both geographical areas have not experienced significant changes in recent weeks from any of the analysed markets and, compared to other European destinations, they maintain a strong positioning, especially in the Spanish, US and French markets.
