Consult the data on the labour market and wages in tourism activities
The results of this new edition of the report reveal that during 2024 (the latest year for which wage data are available), the number of workers in tourism across Destination Barcelona increased to 328,047 (+3.4%), bringing the sector’s share of total employment to 11.7%. However, hiring decreased by -2.9%, mainly due to the rise in permanent contracts, from 55% in 2023 to 58% in 2024, while unemployment remained virtually unchanged.
Wages increased by +2.0% to an average of €24,630 gross per year, but this rise remained below inflation, resulting in a loss of purchasing power. Food and beverage services recorded the lowest wages, while tourism transport registered the highest levels of remuneration.
The report also highlights persistent inequalities: women, young people and foreign nationals, who are more heavily represented in tourism activities than in other sectors, continued to receive lower wages.
The report concludes with a special focus on wages in tourism activities in the city of Barcelona.
