The Barcelona Tourism Observatory: city and region has presented the second capsule of the 2025 Tourism Activity Report, focused on visitor profile, origin, travel characteristics and expenditure.
The report reveals that two out of every three tourists in Destination Barcelona in 2025 were men, and that the average age stood at 39.2 years. Most visitors had a university education (66.9%) and were salaried employees (62.8%).
Domestic tourism grew slightly (+2.1%), remaining the main market with a 25.2% share. International tourism also increased (+3.9%), with notable rises in visitors from Japan (+23.9%) and China (+14.7%). For the third consecutive year, the United States topped the international ranking of tourists, with a 10.8% share, followed by France (7.4%), the United Kingdom (6.5%) and Italy (5.1%).
Most trips were for holidays or leisure (64.4%) and travelling as a couple was the most frequent (41.7%). Air travel continued to be the main means of arrival (66.2%), and walking was, one more year, the most widely used mode of internal mobility, both in Barcelona city (44.9%) and in the region (67.0%). Cultural visits, shopping and going to the beach were the most frequent activities.
Both transport and accommodation costs decreased year‑on‑year (‑2.8% and ‑1.2%, respectively), as well as the price of package holidays (‑10.3%). Nevertheless, expenditure during the stay continued to rise, reaching €84.75 per person and night across the Destination (+8.5%). In Barcelona city, this figure exceeded €100 for the first time, while in the region it stood close to €50. Spending on food and drinks accounted for nearly half of total expenditure.
