Easter 2024: The OTB analyses the status of hotel bookings two weeks before the holidays

The OTB publishes a special report on the Destination Barcelona tourism activity forecast with a special focus on the demand for accommodation for the Easter holidays period.

The main conclusions of this update are presented below:

• Two weeks before the start of the Easter school holidays, the level of hotel bookings stands at over half of last year’s final bookings for Easter in Barcelona city and close to 40%, in Barcelona region.
• Although bookings in the city are at a more advanced stage than those in the region, they are below the same period of last year’s level. In contrast, in Barcelona region, bookings are slightly above the bookings made up to the same time a year ago. With two weeks to go, there is still room for growth in last-minute bookings for this holiday in both cases.
• As for the distribution of bookings for these days, the level of hotel reservations increases from Maundy Thursday onwards in both Barcelona city and Barcelona region, especially in the latter geographical area. In Barcelona city, bookings for the first weekend of Easter are currently showing slightly higher levels of those for the following weekend.
• Bookings for Easter have been made on average 70-75 days in advance, which is higher than last year.
• The domestic market is the one with the most bookings for Easter, especially in Barcelona region. Those from the United States are the most frequent international bookings in Barcelona city, while those from France, in the region.
• The average stay will be 4.2 nights in Barcelona city and 2.8 nights in the region, while the ADR will be over €200 in the first case and close to €150 in the second. Both prices are below the same period last year.
• More than half of the bookings are for travelling as a couple.
• The volume of hotel bookings for Easter in Destination Barcelona is lower than the average for the European cities analysed. The ADR of Barcelona city is at a very similar level to that of Madrid (225€), while that of Barcelona region is at the same level as that of Berlin (146€). The average stay in Barcelona city will be longer than in the other destinations included in this report, while the average stay in Barcelona region will be the shortest.
